Musetti keeps climbing

He came out of the gates at No 59 in the world in 2022. Promising, wildly talented, but inconsistent and injury prone, it wasn’t clear what type of year Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti would muster up.

10 months later, we know.

The Italian has steadily climbed the rankings and made his presence felt as a force on tour. He completed his first title run this summer in Hamburg, winning a thrilling title over Carlos Alcaraz, and this weekend in Florence he was in the hunt, reaching the semis before falling to eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Another solid week pushes the Italian up three spots to a career-high No 24. Musetti will take his place in this week’s Napoli draw as the No 4 seed, hoping to make a run at a top-20 finish in 2022.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Florence 2022

Auger-Aliassime returns to top-10

The man of the hour in Florence was Felix Auger-Aliassime, who stormed to his second career title and moved into seventh place in the Race to Turin standings. For his efforts the 22-year-old Canadian returns to the top-10. Auger-Aliassime made his top-10 debut on January 10 of this year, and has spent the majority of his season there.

He reached a career-high No 8 on August 22nd, but fell out of the top-10 after the US Open – now Felix is back where he belongs.

Thanks to a dominant week in Florence, Auger-Aliassime appears to be headed for his first year-end top-10 finish.
