Alcaraz vs. Medvedev: Head-to-Head (1-1)

Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev have now met twice, with each player winning one match each.

Their most recent meeting came in the BNP Paribas Open final in Indian Wells in March 2023, with Alcaraz coming out on top, 6-3, 6-2 to regain the world No 1 spot.

“Carlos is deservedly world No 1,” Medvedev said. “He won more points than everybody else in last 52 weeks, and that’s how rankings work. Yeah, he was also year-end No 1 last year. That’s something I haven’t done, so I’ll try, for sure, in my career.”

The first time they played was before Alcaraz climbed to the top of the rankings, at Wimbledon in 2021, when Medvedev cruised through to round three with a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 win. The Spaniard had just turned 18 years old at the time and was ranked No 75 in the world.

“If I’m not wrong, when I played against him he was No 2 in the world,” Alcaraz reflected. “I just started to play on the tour, so I was not experienced player. For me, (it) was a strange match. Right now is totally different. I’m (an) experienced guy — at least I’m more experienced (than in) that match. I know how to play against him.”
