18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz‘s hot streak continued at the Erste Bank Open with another massive scalp – that of world No 7 Matteo Berrettini, dismissed by the teenage Spaniard 6-1, 6-7(2), 7-6(5) in two hours and 40 minutes.

He is now through to the biggest semi-final of his career so far – and is the third youngest man to reach that stage in Vienna, after 17-year-old Stefan Edberg in 1983 and 18-year-old Roger Federer in 1999, neither of whom made it through to the final.

Alcaraz had eliminated two Brits earlier in the week, one of them a former world No 1 – Andy Murray in the round of 16, and Dan Evans in the round of 32.

Of course, this all comes less than two months after Alcaraz knocked third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the US Open in a gruelling five-set encounter.

He has yet another tough task in the semi-final, though – either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Alexander Zverev will stand in his way as he looks to become the youngest finalist in tournament history.
