Djokovic remains atop ATP rankings but Medvedev to become No 1 next week; Nadal up to No 4

With players carrying points from the 2021 and 2022 French Open, Djokovic holds on to the No 1 spot but will drop to No 3 in the ATP rankings next week

Novak Djokovic remained on top of the ATP rankings despite going out in the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros but the Serb will drop to No 3 next week, when the points from last year’s French Open will drop off.

Djokovic remains at No 1 for a record-extending 372nd week but still retains the 2,000 points he earned from winning the 2021 French Open. Those points will drop off the rankings next week since the French Open was held one week later in the calendar last year.

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev will regain the top spot on Monday June 13, which he held for three weeks earlier in the year. Medvedev remains at No 2 this week, followed by Alexander Zverev, who will climb to a new career-high of No 2 next week.

Nadal climbs to No 4 in ATP rankings after Roland-Garros win

Rafael Nadal climbs one spot to No 4 in the ATP rankings after winning his record-extending 22nd Grand Slam and 14th Roland-Garros title, followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas. After claiming the first two Majors of the season, Nadal is at the No 1 position in the ATP Race to Turin for 2022.

Norway’s Casper Ruud moves up two spots to a new career-high of No 6 after reaching his first Grand Slam final in Paris. The rest of the top 10 includes 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz (-1 to No 7), Andrey Rublev (No 8), Felix Auger-Aliassime (No 9) and Matteo Berrettini (No 10).

Outside the top 10, French Open semi-finalist Marin Cilic climbs six spots to No 17 returning to the top 20 for the first time since August 2019. 19-year-old Holger Rune, who reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final last week. jumps 12 spots to a new career-high of No 28.

There were also big moves for Belgium’s David Goffin (+7 to No 41) and Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic (+8 to No 47).

20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer drops three spots to No 50 this week and will drop off the rankings completely after Wimbledon, having not played a match since Wimbledon in 2021. The Swiss is scheduled to return to competition in the Laver Cup and at the ATP 500 event in Basel as of now.
