Roger Federer made another splash on social media on Thursday, announcing the launch of THE ROGER Pro, the first tennis shoe that he has co-created with On Running, the Swiss company in which he is also an investor.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion and On Running both took to social media to announce the launch of the shoe, which has been eagerly awaited by his fans across the world.

Federer and On Running signed a partnership in 2019 as a part of which the Swiss also invested an undisclosed sum (at an undisclosed valuation) in the company. He has worked closely with the team at On Running to create his own footwear line called ‘The Roger’, under which they had released a running shoe earlier.

Federer tweeted to mark the launch saying , “Super excited to hit the market in bigger numbers with the Roger Pro. We have spent a long time perfecting it. ”

Federer continues to work towards comeback

Over the past week, Federer has posted two updates on his social media handles detailing his rehab from his most recent knee surgery, showing promising signs that he will return to the tour later this year.

The 40-year-old has not played since Wimbledon 2021, where he lost to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets in the quarter-final round. Following that loss, the Swiss underwent his third surgery on his right knee and has been out of action ever since.

Earlier this month, Federer dropped out of the Top 40 of the world rankings for the first time since his debut in the top 40 in 2000. He is currently ranked 43rd in the world but has said he will likely comeback only in late summer/ early autumn, putting hopes of another Wimbledon appearance to rest for this season at least.

Federer is currently tied for second place in the list for most Grand Slam singles titles in men’s tennis history, with 20 majors along with current world No 1 Novak Djokovic. They both trail Rafael Nadal, who picked up his 21st Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January this year.
