Halle: Basilashvili snaps three-match losing streak to upset Rublev

Nikoloz Basilashvili defeats third seed Andrey Rublev to reach the second round in Halle and ties the head-to-head between the two players at 3-3

Russia’s Andrey Rublev was upset in the first round in Halle at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Monday going down to Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Basilashvili, ranked No 25 in the world, upset the third seeded Rublev 7-6 [1], 6-4 in one hour and 25 minutes. The Russian had a 11-5 career record on grass prior to this tournament.

The win levels the head-to-head between the two players at 3-3 and snapped Basilashvili’s three-match losing streak to Rublev.

The Georgian will meet either German Oscar Otte or Serb Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round.
