‘Nice kid’ Sinner will be next to win a Grand Slam, predicts Bartoli

The next generation are taking over – and Marion Bartoli is tipping another youngster to win his maiden Grand Slam very soon

Carlos Alcaraz struck a blow for the young generation at the 2022 US Open – but Marion Bartoli says that one of the men he beat en route to the title will be the next to win a Grand Slam.

The former Wimbledon champion says defeated quarter-finalist Jannik Sinner will lift a major trophy very soon – if he tweaks just one aspect of his game.

“He has the game, he hits the ball so hard, he’s beaten Alcaraz already twice, he’s right there in terms of level,” she said in the most recent episode of Match Points.

“It’s just for him mentally to get a little tougher and a bit less nice on court. You feel he’s a nice kid and you need to have a mean spirit and a fire inside to go for a Grand Slam.”

There’s some encouragement for some of the slightly older crew as well – Bartoli thinks Stefanos Tsitsipas will recover his mojo, and Alexander Zverev will get back in the mix.

“I think we will have three, four maybe other names that absolutely will be in quarter-finals moving forward,” she confirmed.
