San Diego Open: O’Connell into last 4

Christopher O’Connell edged out Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 on Saturday night. He’ll play the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima, the No 5 seed, and Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan in the next round

Australian Christopher O’Connell edged out American Jenson Brooksby, the second seed, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to reach the last 4 of the San Diego Open at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Saturday night.

O’Connell, ranked No 130, will face the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima, the No 5 seed, and Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan next.

The Australian benefited from the abandonment of Jason Kubler (4-6, 6-3) and won against American J.J. Wolf, the No 8 seed (6-3, 7-5) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the San Diego, Brooksby, ranked No 50, defeated Mackenzie McDonald (6-4, 3-6, 6-2).
