Alexander Zverev is into the last four of the Nitto ATP Finals after beating Hubert Hurkacz 6-2, 6-4 in the Red Group – and will now face Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

It is the third time Zverev – a previous champion back in 2018 – has reached this stage of the competition.

The third seed raced through to take the first set in 27 minutes – and wrapped up the entire match in one hour and two minutes, the quickest clash of the week so far.

And the German hit 22 winners and made just eight unforced errors, in contrast to his opponent, who struggled badly particularly in the opening set, winning just two of the first 18 points.

“Today was a tough match mentally because I needed to win, so I was 100 per cent focused,” Zverev said afterwards. “It was very up and down, and I am happy to be through and win in straight sets. You can always improve. The margins are always very small between the top players, but to win you have to do the details right. I hope I can do that on Saturday [against Djokovic].”
