“Next year I really think I can crack the top 10 again” – Andreescu aiming high in 2023, but still hasn’t found a coach

Bianca Andreescu has yet to line up a full-time coach for 2023 but the Canadian is still confident that she can be a difference maker on tour.

After starting her 2022 campaign three months later than expected, Canada’s Bianca Andreescu cut her ranking in half and made significant strides on tour.

She’s planning to do even better in 2023.

“I feel pretty good mentally and physically,” Andreescu said on Thursday in Glasgow, where she had just defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto in Billie Jean King Cup action. “I think I’m playing great tennis, but I know that there is a lot more that I can improve on. I don’t want to rush into anything. I don’t want to have too high expectations for myself.”

I think I’m going to have a great preseason. Next year I really think I can crack the top 10 again.

Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion and a former world No 4, is still only 22 years of age and could very well have her best tennis in front of her. This year she showed that she is still an elite player, albeit in spurts, as she went 19-12 and notched five top-20 wins.

She believes that playing at Billie Jean King Cup is the perfect way to finish the season.

“I’m just taking it day by day, and it’s a great way to end off the year as well, just bringing back all the emotions that fire a lot in me,” she said. “I think I’m going to have a great preseason. Next year I really think I can crack the top 10 again.”

Still coachless, but searching

Andreescu parted ways with coach Sven Groeneveld, who guided her for a little over a year, in October. She says she has been conducting a proper search for her next coach but has not made a decision yet.

“I haven’t made a decision yet, but I have been interviewing some people. So I think I have some great options to choose from,” she said.
