Richard Gasquet (at the Murray River Open) and Laszlo Djere and Feliciano Lopez (at the Great Ocean Road Open) are the top two seeds eliminated from the men’s Melbourne Summer Series so far.
The 3 things you need to know: Gasquet, Norrie eliminated, Anderson wins, Moutet beats Tiafoe
Murray River Open: Norrie out
France’s Richard Gasquet – seeded 14th – lost to the USA’s Mackenzie McDonald in the round of 64, 7-6(2), 7-5.
There was also a defeat for Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie at the hands of Tommy Paul, seeded 15th, who triumphed 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-3.
And in an intriguing tussle, Corentin Moutet held off American Frances Tiafoe, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Aussie wildcard Jason Kubler shocked ninth seed Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, but the other seeds progressed – Albert Ramos-Vinolas, seeded 12th, beat wildcard Blake Mott 6-2, 6-4, and 16th seed Marton Fucsovics of Hungary beat Italy’s Marco Cecchinato 7-6(8), 6-3.
Great Ocean Road Open: Djere knocked out, Bedene through
At the Great Ocean Road Open, 12th seed Laszlo Djere lost in straight sets to Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak.
Perhaps not an upset, but Kevin Anderson – short of fitness in recent months – enjoyed a straight-sets win over Feliciano Lopez, the 16th seed, coming through 6-4, 7-5.
Thirteenth seed Aljaz Bedene made it safely through – but required two tie-breaks to beat Yasutaka Uchiyama 7-6(5), 7-6(5).
