Casper Ruud, the newest member of the world’s top 10, led Norway into the Davis Cup World Group I knock-out tie in November after winning both his singles matches against Uzbekistan at the Oslo Tennis Arena, Oslo, Norway over the weekend.

On Saturday, Ruud defeated Sanjar Fayziev 6-3, 6-1 to wrap up the tie 3-1 for the Norwegians.

Norway had taken a 2-0 lead on Day 1 with both Ruud and Viktor Durasovic winning their singles matches on Day 1 before the Uzbeks kept their hopes alive with a win in the doubles.

The win moves Norway into a World Group I knock-out tie in November – the winners of that tie will move into the 2022 Davis Cup qualifiers.

If Norway reach the 2022 Davis Cup qualifiers, it would equal their best-ever performance in the Davis Cup competition.

The win continues a good run for Norwegian tennis in 2021 on the back of Ruud winning three ATP singles titles and also becoming the first player from his country to break into the top 10 of the world rankings.
