Roland-Garros: Former champion Ostapenko ends five-match losing streak to reach second round
2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko is through to the second round of this year’s tournament where she will meet Frenchwoman Alize Cornet
In February, Jelena Ostapenko was the hottest player on the WTA Tour. The Latvian won the title in Dubai, including a win over Iga Swiatek (the last player to beat the Pole) and finished runner-up in Doha.
But since then, the 24-year-old has faced a slump, losing her opening matches in her next four events. On Tuesday, the 2017 French Open champion snapped that five-match losing streak to reach the second round in Paris.
Ostapenko and Cornet have played four times in the past, with their head-to-head being tied at 2-2.
