In February, Jelena Ostapenko was the hottest player on the WTA Tour. The Latvian won the title in Dubai, including a win over Iga Swiatek (the last player to beat the Pole) and finished runner-up in Doha.

But since then, the 24-year-old has faced a slump, losing her opening matches in her next four events. On Tuesday, the 2017 French Open champion snapped that five-match losing streak to reach the second round in Paris.

Seeded 13th, Ostapenko, defeated Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6-1, 6-4 to move into the second round where she will face Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, who scored a 6-2, 6-0 win over Japan’s Misaki Doi.

Ostapenko and Cornet have played four times in the past, with their head-to-head being tied at 2-2.
