World No 2 Daniil Medvedev advanced to the third round of Roland-Garros with a straight sets win over Serb Laslo Djere at Roland-Garros in Paris on Thursday.

The Russian, playing only his second clay court tournament of the season after a hernia surgery forced him to miss most of the lead-up events to the French Open, scored a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win over Djere in two hours and 36 minutes.

Daniil Medvedev, who will not be able to play at Wimbledon next month, after the All England Club and Lawn Tennis Association banned Russian and Belarusian players due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, will next meet another Serb – the No 28 seed Miomir Kecmanovic.

Kecmanovic defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 in two hours and 14 minutes on Thursday.
