China’s Qinwen Zheng reached the third round of Roland-Garros by winning against Romania’s Simona Halep, the No 19 seed, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday.

Halep looked to be in distress on court, seeking medical attention, and revealed in her press conference later that she had suffered from a panic attack.

“I didn’t know how to handle it, because I don’t have it often,” she told journalists. “Yeah, I don’t really know why it happened, because I was leading the match. I was playing well.

“But just happened, and as I said, I lost it. I couldn’t focus. After the match, was pretty tough. But now I’m good. I’m recovered, and I will learn from this episode.”

Zheng, ranked No 74, will play the winner of the next match between Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 13 seed, next.

In the first round, the 19-year-old Chinese defeated Belgian Maryna Zanevska (6-3, 6-1), while former champion Halep needed three sets to beat German lucky loser Nastasja Schunk (6-4, 1-6, 6-1).
