The Latvian Tennis Federation has followed the Lawn Tennis Association & Wimbledon organizers and barred Russian and Belarusian players from participating in the ITF $60K women’s event in the country in July.

This is only the second instance of a national federation banning Russian and Belarusian players form entering a tournament. However, this time the decision seems to have come after the Latvian Tennis Federation had discussions with the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the governing body that regulates the lower-tier ITF tournaments.

It remains unclear if the ITF will award points for this tournament. The ATP & WTA Tours decided to not allot any ranking points for Wimbledon but did allot points for the ATP & WTA events in the United Kingdom prior to Wimbledon, on the principle that players barred had the opportunity to earn ranking points in the same week in another country.

World No 86 Arantxa Rus, of the Netherlands, and world No 101 Chloe Paquet, of France, headline the field in the ITF $60K event in question.
