What did Clara Tauson do at Lyon in 2021?
Tauson won her maiden title at Lyon, all the way from qualifying, not dropping a single set on the way. She took out top-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova in her first round to improve to 2-0 against top 50 players. Tauson defeated Timea Babos in the second round, Camila Giorgi in the quarter-finals and Paula Badosa in the semi-finals. She dropped 22 games in her four main draw matches to reach the final. It was just her third WTA-level event.
In the final Tauson defeated Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic, 6-4, 6-1.
“I think when I play like this, like I’ve been the whole week, I think I can beat some really good players, of course it’s not every week I play like this for seven matches,” she said after the final. “So I think this week was, I don’t want to say it’s easy because I’ve worked so hard for this. That it’s coming now is more surprising I think. When I came here was a qualifier. I just tried to win as many matches as I could, I didn’t expect this of course, so yeah, I’m very happy with this, and looking forward to the next.”
What is Tauson’s game style?
Tauson is an all-court player that likes to move forward and attack the net. She has tremendous power off both wings and, given how fast she plays, can be incredibly accurate. She serves well and also likes to hit drop shots to change up rallies.
Who are Clara Tauson’s parents?
Tauson’s father, Soren, was a professional hockey player in Denmark. Tauson says her father stopped playing before she was born, so she doesn’t have any memories of watching him play live. Tauson’s mother, who travels with her on tour, was an elite handball player in Denmark.

Was Tauson a good junior?
Yes. In fact, it wasn’t Caroline Wozniacki who became the first Danish woman player to hold the No 1 junior ranking, it was Tauson. She won the Australian Open Girls’ Singles titles in 2019.
Who is Tauson’s uncle?
Tauson has a very athletic family. Her uncle, Michael, was a former ATP world No 101 who had a 27-26 record on tour.
What did Tauson do at Roland-Garros in 2020?
In her first appearance at a main draw in a Grand Slam, Tauson saved two match points to take out American Jennifer Brady in three sets. The 6-4, 3-6, 9-7 victory over the No 21 seed was Tauson’s first ever match against a player in the top 50.
“I was just grateful to be there and just happy that I could play a girl like her on a big court,” Tauson said. “It was a dream come true, of course, and then winning the match, I don’t have any words yet. It was so great, I’ve never really experienced a match like that.”

Tauson loves watching tennis on TV and YouTube and keeps up with all the matches on the internet. She says her coach calls her the “Wikipedia of tennis results.”
Who is Clara Tauson’s coach?
Since the end of 2019 Tauson has been working with Olivier Jeunehomme at the Justine Henin Academy in Belgium. Tauson says she decided to work with Jeunehomme because she wanted to make the next step in her career. She had been coached primarily by her father before that.

Who is Tauson’s dream opponent?
Tauson, while playing at Lyon in March of 2021, named Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova as two of the players she’d most like to face.
“I definitely want to play Halep one day,” she told WTATennis.com. “I think she’s just a champion, she plays 100 percent every tournament she plays and no matter what the score, she’s always there. And Kvitova also – I love watching her play. I want to feel how her balls are coming, because she just hits so big and I want to play like her.”
