Patrick Mouratoglou has noticed a change in Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime through the 2020 US Open – and he likes what he sees.

The coach thinks that the 20-year-old is letting his killer instinct out – and he says that this unleashing of his competitiveness will help him close in on Grand Slam titles.

“The more I see him, the more I see this rage coming,” said the Frenchman in the latest episode of Eye of the Coach.

“Now I feel that this dimension that is so important is coming up and is showing up. I think it has always been there but it was not very obvious before.”

Mouratoglou thinks that as a tennis player, Auger-Aliassime is missing very little.

“The potential is huge,” he said. “He has power from all the shots. Very complete player and an incredible athlete.”

But he says that this is not enough to become a Grand Slam winner. What is more important is mentality and desire.

And Mouratoglou compared Auger-Aliassime to some of the other younger men on the ATP Tour, particularly Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, and Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas: “They’re incredibly competitive and they want to be the best.”

With the Canadian, Mouratoglou described him as: “I felt like he was more like trying to do everything perfect, like a good student.”

Now, however, with straight-sets win against France’s Corentin Moutet (6-1, 6-0, 6-4) and former US Open champion Andy Murray (6-2, 6-3, 6-4) under his belt, Mouratoglou thinks Auger-Aliassime’s eyes are on the prize.

“He is here to win,” he said.
