De Minaur leads Aussie charge into Wimbledon’s week two

Alex De Minaur won against Liam Broady 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday afternoon and will play Chilean Cristian Garin in the next round

Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 19 seed, moved into the last 16 of Wimbledon by winning against wildcard Liam Broady 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday.

De Minaur, ranked No 27, will play Chilean Cristian Garin next.

The Australian has reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the first time, after entering the championships with a 3-3 overall record.

De Minaur joins compatriot Jason Kubler in the round of 16. If Nick Kyrgios defeats Stefanos Tsitsipas later today it will mark the first time three Australians have reached the round of 16 at the same major since 2002 Wimbledon.

De Minaur hit 33 winners and won 23 of 33 points at net to take out the world No 132 on No.1 Court.
