Czech teen Linda Fruhvirtova has been marked for success for a while now. The 16-year-old, along with her 14-year-old sister Brenda Fruhvirtova, are said to be tennis’ next big Sister Act and the older Fruhvirtova showed she is up for the task, scoring her first top 25 win in the second round of the WTA Miami Open.

Fruhvirtova scored a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win over world No 24 Elise Mertens and in her press conference revealed her ambitions about rising to the top of the women’s game, alongside her sister.

“I have always answered that I want to reach No. 1. I want to win Grand Slam titles, which hasn’t changed. We always said that with my sister it’s my goal and, yeah, we just want to achieve that.”

“I think she’ll get here soon” – Linda Fruhvirtova on younger sister Brenda

The Fruhvirtova family and the sisters are tight. Although they have yet to face off on the pro tour, the sisters did face off in the final of three successive junior events at the end of 2021, with the older Fruhvirtova winning two of them.

Linda says the two love spending time together and with their family when they get some free time. “Well, I love to spend time with my sister. We go shopping sometimes. I don’t get much free time, but I like to follow some other sports, go to some games. For now, there is not much free time, but I just like to spend it with my family.”

While the older sister is making heads turn in Miami, younger sister Brenda was competing at an ITF $25K event in France where she lost her second round match this week. Linda says she cannot wait for her younger sister, who already won 2 ITF pro tour titles earlier this year, to join her on the WTA Tour.

“We train together sometimes. She’s obviously really good. We play doubles together. I just can’t wait till she’s playing these tournaments too and we can be here together and get these matches together. I think she’ll get here soon.”
