Sad news for the world of tennis broke on Friday as Chris Evert, winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, announced that she has ovarian cancer.
It was discovered at the beginning of December, but she had not yet made the diagnosis public.
She said she had started the first of six chemotherapy sessions this week, and added that she was inspired by her younger sister Jeanne Evert Dublin, also a former professional tennis player who died of ovarian cancer in February 2020. We wish her a speedy recovery like Martina Navratilova, one of her greatest opponents but also one of her good friends.
