Liudmila Samsonova wasted no time earning a spot in the Citi Open final, routing Chinese lucky loser Xiyu Wang 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Samsonova needed only one hour and seven minutes to advance, using a dominant performance on serve to overwhelm Wang. The Russian won 80 percent of her first-serve points and even 82 percent of her second-serve points while saving the only break point she faced. Samsonova controlled her return games, too, converting five of eight break points.

Samsonova will face Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi on Sunday.

The world No 60 previously defeated Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 5 seed (7-6(4), 6-4), Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic (4-6, 6-3, 6-2), and second-seeded Emma Raducanu (7-6(6), 6-1). Wang’s run featured wins over German Tatjana Maria (6-2, 7-5), Croat Donna Vekic (4-6, 7-5, 6-1), and fourth-seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (6-1, 6-3).
