US Open champion Emma Raducanu has confirmed that she will be working with Torben Beltz, the former coach of three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber.

Even as reports started circulating on early Tuesday that Raducanu and Beltz will be working together, the 18-year-old Brit confirmed the news after going down in her opening match at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz event in Austria.

Raducanu was defeated by China’s Wang Xinyu 6-1, 6-7 (0-7), 7-5 in the second round on Tuesday and then confirmed that Beltz will be her new coach when speaking with the media.

44-year-old Beltz has been the long-time coach of Kerber, guiding her to two Grand Slams and the No 1 ranking, and has also worked with Donna Vekic earlier.

Raducanu had earlier stated that she was looking for someone who was experienced at the elite level on the WTA Tour and given his resume, Beltz certainly fitted the bill.

I’m excited about all the work that is to come – Raducanu

“It’s obviously a great privilege to be working with such an experienced coach. I’m definitely very excited to work with him throughout the pre-season and into next year. Things are looking up, it’s a very positive feeling and I’m excited about all the work that is to come.”

Raducanu and Beltz will start working together during the off-season and Raducanu says she feels good about the partnership.

“Obviously he has worked with Kerber, who is such a great player and won three Slams. I think that experience definitely helps with someone as inexperienced as me. He can help guide me through – which I feel really confident about. He’s also a really positive, cheerful guy who brings great energy to the team and I think that’s also important when you are travelling on the road for quite a long time on the tour.”
