Thoreau Open: Wang books spot in last four

Chinese Qiang Wang advanced to the semi-finals of the Thoreau Open by winning against Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 4 seed, 6-2, 6-4 at Thoreau Tennis club in Concord on Friday afternoon.

Wang, ranked No 110, will play the winner of the match between Dane wildcard Clara Tauson and American wildcard Coco Vandeweghe next.

Earlier in the tournament, the Chinese defeated Georgian Mariam Bolkvadze (6-1, 6-2) and Swiss Viktorija Golubic, the No 5 seed (6-0, 0-6, 6-3).

Frech, ranked No 107, won against Russian Anastasia Tikhonova (6-4, 6-2) and edged out American Catherine McNally (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Concord Open.
