Kvitova beats Jabeur in straight sets at Western & Southern Open

Petra Kvitova holds off Ons Jabeur in three sets during third-round action at the Cincinnati WTA 1000 on Thursday. Veronika Kudermetova or Ajla Tomljanovic is next for Kvitova.

Petra Kvitova picked up one of her biggest wins of the 2022 season when she defeated world No 5 Ons Jabeur 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 in round three of the Western & Southern Open on Thursday afternoon. Kvitova prevailed after one hour and 48 minutes of play.

Although the Czech owns a booming serve, her return game was dominant on Thursday. Kvitova won more than half of the points even when Jabeur made her first serve, and the Tunisian’s serving woes also included six double-faults.

Kvitova awaits either Veronika Kudermetova or Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarter-finals. The left-hander’s run in Cincinnati almost never got off the ground, as she had to save a match point in round against Jil Teichmann before surviving that three-set thriller.
