Muguruza confirms she will be back to the tour in 2024

The Spaniard said her goals include winning the US Open, Australian Open and an Olympic medal

Former world No 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza has confirmed that she intends to return to the tour next year.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has taken a sabbatical from the game earlier this year after going 0-4 in 2023, saying she wanted to take a break from the game and spend some time with her family. She also struggled in the second half of 2022, dropping to No 55 after being ranked No 3 at the start of last year.

Muguruza, who announced her engagement earlier this year, made the comments at the Chamartín Tennis Club on Tuesday, where she received the Gold Medal for Sports Merit.

“(I am) Very excited by this recognition. During the ceremony, Muguruza confirmed that he will be back next year and has her sights set on the major titles yet to elude her. “I’m enjoying this sabbatical, I think it’s good to stop but it’s not a definitive goodbye. I want to prepare myself to come back, when I’m ready I’ll go back to the courts,” she said. “US Open, Australian Open, Olympic medal”, Muguruza responded when asked what her goals were for her comeback.
