Garbine Muguruza reeled off the final four games to defeat Anett Kontaveit 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday night in the WTA Finals title match at Guadalajara. The 28-year-old becomes the first Spaniard to win the singles title at the WTA Finals.
Kontaveit was close to forcing a deciding set but Muguruza turned the tables and seized the opportunity from 5-3 down, reeling off 16 of the final 20 points to finish off her historic victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
