Morocco Open: Liu into semi-finals
Claire Liu beat Astra Sharma 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday and will face Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 5 seed, in the next round
American Claire Liu moved into the last four of the Morocco Open by winning against Australian Astra Sharma 6-4, 6-1 at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc in Rabat on Thursday afternoon.
Liu, ranked No 92, will face Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 5 seed, in the semi-finals.
The 21-year-old American defeated Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 6-3) and Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 4 seed (4-6, 7-6 [5], 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Sharma, ranked No 144, edged out Mexican Marcela Zacarias (1-6, 7-5, 6-4) and won against Croat wildcard Petra Marcinko (5-7, 6-3, 6-3).
