Tennis in the Land: Zhang makes quarter-finals
Shuai Zhang benefited from the forfeit of Martina Trevisan on Wednesday night and will play Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 8 seed, in the next round
Chinese Shuai Zhang advanced to the quarter-finals of the Tennis in the Land after Italian Martina Trevisan, the second seed, withdrew before the match at Cleveland’s iconic Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Wednesday night.
Zhang, ranked No 35, will face Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 8 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 33-year-old Chinese won against Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-2, 6-1).
Trevisan, ranked No 27, edged out Egyptian Mayar Sherif (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) in the previous round.
