Yoshihito Nishioka won against Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-4 to move into the last eight of the Korea Open at the Seoul Olympic Park on Thursday.
Nishioka, ranked No 56, will play the winner of the match between Norwegian Casper Ruud, the top seed, and Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry next.
In the previous round of the Seoul, Yoshihito Nishioka defeated No 5 seed Daniel Evans (6-2, 7-6 (3)). Daniel, ranked No 92, beat Ecuadorian Emilio Gomez (6-4, 6-4).
