Mérida Open: Qualifier Peterson upsets top seed Linette to reach semis
The Swede will play American Caty McNally for a spot in the final

Swede qualifier Rebecca Peterson reached the semi-finals of the Mérida Open by beating top seed Magda Linette, of Poland, 6-2, 6-4 at the Yucatan Country Club on Friday.
Peterson, ranked No 140 in the world, will face American Caty McNally next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Swede had defeated Argentine Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 7-5) and American Alycia Parks, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-2).
Linette, ranked No 21 in the world, had won against Colombian Camila Osorio (6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-2) and Hungarian Panna Udvardy (6-0, 2-5 ret.) in previous rounds.

- Catherine McNally beat Kimberly Birrell (Q): 6-4, 6-3
