BMW Open: O’Connell confirms his win over Zverev and reaches the semi-finals
Christopher O’Connell defeated Flavio Cobolli (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3) on Friday. He will no play the winner of the match between Dane Holger Rune and Cristian Garin.

Australian Christopher O’Connell, who pulled the upset against Alexander Zverev on Thursday, defeated Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli in three sets (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3) on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the BMW Open at the MTTC Iphitos complex in Munich.
O’Connell, ranked No 82, will now play the winner of the match between Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, and Chilean Cristian Garin next.
The Australian won against Frenchman Ugo Humbert (6-4, 6-4) and German Alexander Zverev, the No 3 seed (7-6 (2), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Munich Open.
Earlier in the tournament, Cobolli, ranked No 208, won against Australian Jordan Thompson (7-5, 6-1) and German Oscar Otte (6-0, 3-6, 6-3).
