German Tatjana Maria, the top seed, won against Italian wildcard Lisa Pigato 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last 8 of the Veneto Open at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Wednesday.
Maria, ranked No 66, will play the winner of the match between American Sofia Kenin and Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Gaiba tournament, the 35-year-old German defeated Swiss Ylena In-Albon (6-3, 6-4).
Pigato, ranked No 497, edged out Croat Ana Konjuh (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) in the 32 of the Gaiba tournament.
