Swiss Open: Cachin into final, takes out qualifier Medjedovic

Argentinian Pedro Cachin reached the final of the Swiss Open by beating Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic 6-3, 6-1 at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Saturday afternoon.

Cachin, ranked No 90, will face Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas for the title.

It will be his first tour-level final, and he goes into it now with a 12-10 winning record on clay.

The Argentinian won against Japanese Taro Daniel (6-4, 6-1), Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the top seed (7-6 (4), 7-6 (3)) and Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Medjedovic, ranked No 183, defeated Chinese Zhizhen Zhang, the No 5 seed (4-6, 6-1, 6-4), Austrian Dominic Thiem (7-5, 2-6, 6-3) and German Yannick Hanfmann, the No 4 seed (6-3, 6-3).

He will not be too disappointed, though, as he will reach a new career-high ranking when they are confirmed on Monday.
