Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang edged out French qualifier Clara Burel 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5 to reach the last 16 of Tennis in the Land at Cleveland’s Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Monday evening.
Wang, ranked No 56, will face the winner of the match between Pole qualifier Magdalena Frech and Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 11 seed, next.
