Chicago Women’s Open: Tomova wins the final, beats Liu in straight sets

Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova won the Chicago Women’s Open final by defeating American Claire Liu 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday evening.
Ahead of her victory, Tomova, ranked No 104, beat American lucky loser Adesuwa Osabuohien (6-0, 6-0), Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 4 seed (6-4, 7-6 (5)), Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the No 8 seed (7-5, 4-6, 6-3) and Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 5 seed (7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-1).
Liu, ranked No 81, defeated Romanian Irina Fetecau (6-1, 6-4), Australian qualifier Storm Hunter (6-0, 6-4), Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 6 seed (7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (3)) and Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (2-1 ret.) earlier in the tournament.
