Romanian wildcard Anca Alexia Todoni beat Frenchwoman Carole Monnet 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the last 16 of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Monday evening.
Remarkably, world No 281 Todoni saved all five break points on her own serve, while capitalising on half of those she faced on Monnet’s serve, breaking the world No 162 on five occasions.
Todoni, ranked No 281, will face the winner of the match between Russian Darya Astakhova and Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova, the second seed, next.
