Guadalajara Open Akron: Azarenka reaches last 16, Kudermetova next

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 10 seed, reached the last 16 of the Guadalajara Open Akron by winning against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Tuesday night.

The two-time major champion improves to 2-1 over Yastremska with her win, and 22-16 on the season.

Azarenka, ranked No 23, will face Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 7 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the 34-year-old Belarusian defeated American Robin Montgomery (6-1, 6-1).

Yastremska, ranked No 102, beat Mexican qualifier Ana Sofia Sanchez (7-6 (1), 6-4) in the previous round.
