Greek Maria Sakkari, the second seed, beat Australian Storm Hunter 6-2, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Guadalajara Open Akron on Wednesday night.
Sakkari, ranked No 9, will play Italian Camila Giorgi next.
In the previous round, Hunter, ranked No 157, won against Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich (6-3, 6-4).
