Russian Roman Safiullin defeated American Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Chengdu Open at the Sichuan International Tennis Center on Wednesday night.
Safiullin, ranked No 55, will face No 4 seed Daniel Evans next.
