Belgian Greet Minnen, the No 7 seed, edged out qualifier Harriet Dart 7-6 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of the Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open on Wednesday.
Minnen, ranked No 68, will play Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous round, the Belgian defeated Frenchwoman Diane Parry (6-2, 6-2).
Dart, ranked No 155, won against German Jule Niemeier (6-3, 6-2) in the first round.
