Russian Karen Khachanov, the top seed, moved into the last 4 of the Zhuhai Open by edging out American Mackenzie McDonald, the No 6 seed, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the Zhuhai Hengqin International Tennis Centre on Sunday night.
Khachanov, ranked No 15, will play the winner of the match between American Sebastian Korda, the No 4 seed, and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 5 seed, next.
The Russian won against Australian qualifier Alex Bolt (6-4, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of the Zhuhai tournament, McDonald, ranked No 39, beat Chinese Juncheng Shang (6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3) and Belgian Kimmer Coppejans (4-6, 6-3, 6-2).
