Korea Open: Lys retires against Bouzkova, asks WTA to rethink ball changes at tournaments

No 4 seed Marie Bouzkova reached the quarter-finals of the Korea Open when German Eva Lys retired from their second round match in Seoul on Thursday

Bouzkova, ranked No 29 in the world, led 6-1 when Lys, ranked No 119, pulled out of the match. The Czech woman will face Chinese Yue Yuan next. In a post on Instagram later, Lys said she had trouble with her shoulder and became the latest player to ask tennis officials to have more consistency in the balls being used at different tournaments.

Bouzkova won against American Kayla Day (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Seoul tournament whereas the 21-year-old Lys beat Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-2, 6-4).
