American Taylor Fritz, the top seed, defeated Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Fritz, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Japanese wildcard Shintaro Mochizuki and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry next.
