Russian Pavel Kotov beat Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 6 seed, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the last 8 of the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open on Wednesday.
Kotov, ranked No 67, will face Finn Emil Ruusuvuori next.
The Russian won against Portuguese Nuno Borges (6-2, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round, Musetti, ranked No 27, defeated wildcard Chak Lam Coleman Wong (6-4, 7-5).
