Belarusian Victoria Azarenka won against Chinese Xinyu Wang 7-6 (2), 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the Qatar Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha.
Azarenka, ranked No 31, will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 8 seed, next.
The 34-year-old Belarusian defeated Pole qualifier Magdalena Frech (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Qatar tournament, Wang, ranked No 41, won against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 10 seed (6-1, 6-3).
