Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 6 seed, beat Australian wildcard Taylah Preston 6-4, 6-3 to move into the last eight of the San Diego Open at the Barnes Tennis Center on Wednesday night.
Kostyuk, ranked No 34, will face the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 4 seed, and Chinese Xinyu Wang next.
The 21-year-old Ukrainian won against American qualifier Ann Li (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the San Diego tournament, Preston, ranked No 153, defeated Pole Magdalena Frech (6-4, 4-6, 6-1).
