American wildcard Michael Mmoh moved into the quarter-finals of the Houston Open by winning against Australian Max Purcell, the No 8 seed, 6-2, 7-5 at River Oaks Country Club on Thursday evening.
Mmoh, ranked No 123, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 4 seed, and Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan next.
In the previous round of the Houston tournament, the American beat Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (6-2, 7-6 (4)).
Purcell, ranked No 79, edged out American Alex Michelsen (7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-4) in the first round of the Houston tournament.
