“I’m not where I want to be” – Sinner looking for improvement on clay

A 6-1, 6-2 win over Sebastian Korda looked pretty comfortable for Jannik Sinner, enjoying a stellar 2024 thus far.

But he admitted to reporters afterwards that he was still hoping to get better on the clay.

“Today was very important trying to move the ball around,” he said. “Was not necessary to play with the heights of the ball but more about the movement. So I consider this as a very good win, because it was a tough match. You know, you see the scoreline, but, you know, the match is a little bit different.

“I’m just happy, and hopefully I can still improve in the next days feeling even more comfortable with this surface and with my movement. Then we’ll see how it goes.”

Sinner: I have grown

Asked if it was easier to adjust to the clay this season than last year, he replied: “I won’t say easier, but for sure the physicality, I have grown, and especially on this surface can help a lot. If you feel more confident, then stronger physically.

“I wouldn’t say that it was easier, but I got a little bit faster to the point where I would like to be. For sure I’m not where I want to be, but for sure we are trying to build on, in the next days and in the next weeks, trying to feel more comfortable.”
