Japanese Taro Daniel reached the second round of the Madrid Masters by winning against Australian Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-1 at the Caja Magica on Wednesday.
Daniel, ranked No 85, will face No 24 seed Tallon Griekspoor next.
